The Cranemakers
Warmth, humour, friendly staff, traditional food and good beer – what more do you want? A variety of regular live entertainment, sport on TV? Yes we do those too and if there’s something we don’t do that our customers would like us to, we are only too happy to listen. Situated on the edge of the city centre, The Cranemakers is recognised locally as a good friendly venue for an evening (or afternoon) of social entertainment. The attractive building has a comfortable and clean traditionally furnished interior with some period features. There is also a beer courtyard for the warmer days/evenings. The Cranemakers was named after a crane manufacturing company (Cowan Sheldon, cranemakers to the world) which used to be located on land opposite the building (it was demolished in the late 1980s). The Cranemakers was known as The Theakston and further back in history it used to trade as a hotel. The Cranemakers
