The Wiltshire Printmaker ~ Handcrafted Linocut Prints ~ Designed, carved and printed by hand in the picturesque and historic market town of Devizes. I specialise in creating linocut relief prints with chine collé and textured collagraph prints. My artwork is often inspired by my observations of beautiful forms in nature. Walking the Wiltshire landscape informs much of my practice and I create printed images that tell their own unique story. I am of course inspired by the rolling hills, white horses, standing stones and the iconic clumps of trees in Wiltshire. I am always seeking for the deeper meaning of places, their histories and stories. My prints have been referred to as 'quilts' and 'tapestries' because of their weaving of symbolic features and patterned elements. Colour is my significant other and it is my early childhood memories that inspire my colourful aesthetic. My original linocuts start as hand-drawn designs, motifs and sketches, which are then hand-carved and handprinted in my studio. I also work with colour through a printmaking process known as chine collé, which enables me to add colour and texture using beautifully fine handmade and natural Mulberry papers. What's so wonderful about this process is that it adds to the uniqueness of each individual print and makes them even more personal. This is similar to collagraph prints I create, which are collaged on boards, varnished and then printed on my intaglio roller printing press. I also work on creative illustration and surface pattern design collections for homewares, interiors and gifts and love to work with new clients when creating collections. My relationship with the natural world brings me continuous inspiration through its patterns of enchantment and magical charm. Wherever I walk, I find things, I collect objects that call out to me and speak to me through their own unique pattern, texture or shape, these are the stories I weave into my work. Whilst living in South Wales studying Fine Art printmaking, I specialised in collagraphs, relief print, etching and screen printing. During this time, I found a love for teaching and became a qualified lecturer in 2013. Since then I have been lecturing and continued to specialise in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking (Bristol) and graduated in 2018 with a Master's in Social Sculpture & Connective Practice (Oxford). These experiences have enabled me to see and question the problem with mass produced products and find my own pathway to resolving this issue. So, I decided to pursue my impulses to design and make bespoke, unique alternatives that reflect my relationship with the world and bring them to you through vibrant, colourful prints and textured designs. I offer a bespoke service with custom commissions and personalised linocut prints. When working to commission, the dialogue with my clients is one of my favourite parts of the printmaking journey. I get to learn so much about people's memories, why they love a particular place so much, but ultimately what makes it so very special to them. Clients often refer to me as a 'mind reader' for bringing their desired design to life.
