Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a very light-touch gentle hands-on therapy which taps into the body's natural ability for self healing. It works at a very deep mind-body-being level. It was developed in the 1970's by John Upledger (a US based Osteopathic Physician) to treat a wide range of issues covering biomechanical, musculoskeletal, neurological, help for new born babies and mothers as well as remedial work for complex emotional trauma (including PTSD and shock). Its forerunner was Cranial Osteopathy which was developed by an Osteopath called William G. Sutherland in the early part of the 1900's. He discovered that all living tissues express a subtle rhythmic motion which has been called "Primary Respiration". This motion can be palpable (felt) by a trained CST practitioner. CST works primarily with the cranium and sacrum but with a whole-body holistic sense and each treatment is always tailored to the specific needs of the client. CST recognises that there is an inherent capacity to self-heal in all living organisms, and aims to support this. The therapeutic effects of CST may be felt throughout the whole body, mind and emotions. The gentle approaches used assist the body's own potential to heal and release restrictions and stresses. CST works with underlying causes as well as specific symptoms. CST supports your body's innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself, as well as helping to reduce stress and build your underlying energy. The light touch of CST 'listens' to you and your body responds by beginning to listen to itself. The practitioner senses tensions in the body and helps to release them in a supported and comfortable way. Craniosacral Therapy (CST) can be a profoundly transformational experience. It works at a very subtle but deep mind-body level were one feels a sense of relaxation that permeates throughout ones being. People comment that it helps them in many different ways and it is suitable for all ages. Areas that may respond well to Craniosacral Therapy include: Emotional Imbalances stemming from Stress and Anxiety Trauma - PTSD and Shock Chronic Pain Fatigue Whiplash Migraines Mothers and babies (pre and post pregnancy)
