Academic Summer
We are writing about Academic Summer at Sidcot School in July and August this year. Our senior summer course is for British and international students aged 14 to 18 who: • are following or planning to follow the IB Diploma • need to revise a particular academic subject • are interested in the ethos of the IB Diploma • are looking for a stimulating and enjoyable summer learning experience • enjoy meeting and communicating with people from a wide range of countries and cultures Sidcot School Sidcot School is an IB World School in the south-west of England only 10 minutes from Bristol Airport. Sidcot School offers: • a beautiful and safe location • good IT facilities and wireless access throughout the campus • a purpose built Art Centre with Music, Drama and Art facilities including digital media • boarding accommodation in single and double rooms with good facilities • three meals a day in Sidcot’s modern cafeteria • excellent sports facilities including a sports hall and a swimming pool • riding stables and horse riding is offered as an optional activity Our Academic Programme Students follow an academic programme of 30 lessons a week in small classes. The curriculum is organised into three blocks, each of ten hours a week: • Theory of Knowledge and Mathematics (5 hours each) • English options such as presentation skills, English Literature and other skills which will help students with English A1 and Further Education. We can also offer international students the opportunity to prepare for and take IELTS. • Academic subjects – Science stream (Biology, Chemistry & Physics) or Arts and Humanities stream (Economics, Geography, History & Art). Students choose their academic option each week Our Leisure Programme Academic Summer offers a structured leisure programme including sports, evening activities, guest speakers, workshops and weekend trips. We have a Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) aspect on the course; students work in teams and participate in a charity event and a talent show. Personal Best The Academic Summer programme gives students the chance to reach their personal best. At the end of the course students will be presented with a certificate and a full report will be sent to parents and schools. Academic Juniors for students aged 7 to 13 Academic Summer also runs a quality primary school course for young learners called Academic Juniors. Students study a full curriculum of subjects and are taught by qualified primary school teachers who can bring the lessons alive for this age group. Nationality mix This summer we will welcome students from the following nationalities: Albania, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Romania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, UAE, UK, Ukraine & USA The fees and dates The fees are £750 per week and include the academic programme, accommodation, food, airport transfers and all trips and activities. We offer the following discounts: • 10% siblings discount to siblings who book together • 5% discount for paying the fees in full at the time of booking by bank transfer • 5% discount for booking 4 weeks • A free place for every 10 students if coming as a group and we have special group rates The dates of the course are 10th July to 7th August 2010.
